Frequently asked questions

  • You do not require a referral to see one of our Physiotherapists or Exercise Physiologists.

The only time a GP referral is required for Physiotherapy or Exercise Physiology is in the case of Workers’ Compensation, Compulsory Third-Party claims and Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) claims.

  • Yes. At Fortis Physio, we treat any patient who is covered under a third-party claim. If you are under third-party, please ensure you bring a referral from your GP as well as any paperwork from your insurance company regarding your claim.

  • Depending on your private health fund and your level of cover, most physiotherapy and exercise physiology appointments can be rebated. Fortis Physio has a HICAPS terminal so all rebates can be processed at the time of your appointment. Please ensure you check with your fund if you are unsure about the amount of your rebate. Please note you must bring your health insurance card to make use of this service.

  • Physiotherapy and exercise physiology is generally not covered by Medicare. In the circumstance of chronic conditions, GPs may refer a patient to be managed on Medicare’s Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan which was previously known as Enhanced Primary Care (EPC). This plan allows the patient to be eligible for a Medicare rebate on up to 5 sessions per year. If you are on this plan, please note that payment for the appointment is required in full and then the patient must seek their rebate from Medicare.

  • Your physiotherapist/exercise physiologist will take a history and complete a thorough assessment of your complaint in order to accurately diagnose your injury and formulate a treatment plan specific to your needs. This plan will outline the nature of the treatment required, the likely recovery time, the number of sessions required and the strategies required to prevent recurrence of your injury. We will then agree with the client on the goals of treatment so that we can achieve early return to full health.

  • If this is your first appointment, please any referral letters, post-operative reports of scans along. Please also remember to bring your private health insurance card so we can process your rebate at the time of your appointment.

If you are coming to us with a Workers’ Compensation or Compulsory Third Party claim please bring any relevant documentation from your insurer (eg. Claim number, approvals).

  • As physiotherapy often requires some exercises to aid in your rehabilitation, we recommended clothes that you can comfortably move around in. We do have shorts you can change into at the practice if you would prefer.

  • Any initial consultations will take 45 minutes to an hour and any review consultations will take between 30 minutes to 45 minutes. If you have more than one injury or condition, this may require longer appointments with your physiotherapist.

  • We require a minimum of 8 hours’ notice if you wish to cancel your appointment.

If you do not attend the practice or cancel your appointment with less than 8 hours’ notice you will be charged a cancellation fee of $50.

If you are unable to attend your scheduled appointment we will try to provide you with an alternative appointment time on your scheduled day of service in order to avoid the cancellation fee being charged.

Motor Accident Insurance and Workers Compensation Insurance does not generally cover charges for non-attendance. These charges will need to be met by the client.
